About us

About Our Practice

Community Healthcare are two linked bulk billing general medical practices which also conduct teaching and research in association with several major Australian universities.  Cessnock Community Healthcare has been operating in Cessnock since 2004. In November 2015 our new clinic opened at 110 Lang St, Kurri Kurri . Kurri Kurri Community Healthcare has all the services available as Cessnock with the advantage of on site pathology and a brand new building funded by a grant from the Australian Government Health and Hospitals Fund.


We are a family orientated practice  committed to providing excellent healthcare care to our patients. We operate from state of the art healthcare facilities that combine modern decor with easy access and a comfortable large waiting area for patients. We have modern air-conditioned premises with the latest technology to provide the best possible care to our local community.

Our waiting room has a comprehensive information section with brochures & posters, kids’ corner, baby change area and mothers nursing room.

Car parking spaces (including disabled parking) are available in front of the clinics.  Cessnock has additional parking is available in Foster Street close to the clinic.

Community Healthcare Cessnock and Kurri Kurri are fully accredited with GPA Accreditation Plus.

After Hours Care:
If you have a medical emergency you should always call 000 for an ambulance or visit your closest emergency department . For less urgent after hours care :  Dial a Home Doctor is our fully deputised After Hours Service. Please call them on 13 99 99 after 4pm weekdays, 10am Saturday and 24hrs Sunday and public holidays to arrange a home visit  or book online at : Your usual GP will be informed of your consultation via wriiten report 

 GP Registrars:

We are fortunate to have registrars completing their postgraduate specialist qualifications while working with us. These doctors are fully qualified and work closely with our senior doctors for 6 or 12 month terms.

New Patients

We welcome new patients at Community Healthcare. Please bring your medicare card, government or centrelink card and a list of current medications (if possible).


Appointments can be made by telephone on 02 4991 0333 (Cessnock) or  4939 3300 (Kurri) between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).  Phone lines open at 8.00 a.m. Appointments can also be made online by clicking the Health Engine link button on this website.

We operate on an appointment booking system. Our standard appointment time is 15 minutes.  For non-urgent appointments please phone  in advance where possible to obtain an appointment with your doctor of choice. 

If you have nominated this service, a SMS reminder will be sent to you the night before your appointment. If you are unable to attend  your appointment, please contact us to reschedule or cancel.
If you have multiple issues to discuss,a complex problem , require a second opinion, medical insurance paperwork to be completed, please advise when booking and a longer appointment can be made for you. 
If you arrive without an appointment the reason for your visit will be triaged. Clinical guidance will be sorted and the appropriate appointment will be offered.  

Sometimes delays can occur due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control. We apologise and the staff will inform you of any delay when you arrive. 

Home Visits

Home visits for regular attending patients who live locally are available  at doctor's discretion if you are too sick to come to the clinic. Please telephone the clinic to discuss your needs. All eligible services will be bulk billed. 

Recall and Reminder System

Our Clinic is committed to preventative care. We may issue you with a reminder notice from time to time offering you preventative health services.We must obtain your consent for these reminders.  If you do not wish to participate, please let us know.  Your clinical results require a follow up appointment with the requesting doctor.  Any significant results will be followed up via our Result Management System


Appointment times are in demand, if you are unable to keep your appointment, please advise the Clinic as soon as possible. You can respond to your SMS reminder with "No".

Telephone Calls & Email Communication

As you would be aware interruptions and unnecessary delays to your consultation can be frustrating. Most queries are best dealt with by consultation, but if URGENT your Doctor may discuss a telephone query with you.          

Email communication for personal health opinions or request for scripts or referrals is not best practice. You will need to make an appointment. Email may be used to update your contact details or general questions that administration staff can assist you with .

Results & Scripts

When tests are requested the results can be accessed a few days later by making a follow up appointment with your Doctor. It is the policy of Community Healthcare that all investigation results require a consultation. This is for your privacy and to provide you with the best medical care,

Scripts :  Our doctors usually allow enough repeats on your prescriptions to last you until next visit. In the interest of good medical care, you will need to see your doctor in person regarding all prescriptions including regular medication.

Privacy of your Health Information

This practice is committed to maintaining the confidentiality of your personal health information. Your health record is a confidential document and as such it is the policy of this clinic to maintain security of personal information at all times and to ensure this information is only available to authorised members of staff. In conjunction with this we do not reveal private information over the phone. If you need to request a copy of your health record,please speak with your doctor.

Any Feedback, Suggestions or Complaints?

We have a suggestion form and box located at reception desk for any comments or suggestions if you would like to contribute to our quality improvements. Feel free to comment. Your feedback and suggestions will be taken into consideration when planning our services. Both praise and criticism  are welcome.
